Head-On Collisions

 Posted on March 29,2017 in Uncategorized

A deadly head-on collision took place around 7 p.m. on Friday, February 3rd in Fairfield, Texas. A teenager driving a Cadillac Deville on Highway 84 tried to pass another vehicle when he collided with a Chevrolet Cruze in the lane moving the opposite direction. The accident took place in a no-passing zone. Two passengers of the Chevrolet were pronounced dead at the scene and the driver of the Chevrolet is in stable condition. All three were wearing their seatbelts. There were five occupants in the Cadillac, none of whom were wearing seatbelts at the time. The driver and three passengers of the Cadillac are in serious condition, while the remaining passenger is in stable condition. The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the crash, and as of now, charges have not been filed.

Head-on collisions often lead to serious injuries and fatalities. Individuals who are hurt or lose a loved one in this type of crash should work with an experienced attorney as soon as possible.

Reasons Behind Head-On Collisions

Head-on collisions generally occur due to a driver’s negligence. When drivers operate their vehicles safely and follow the rules of the road, there is very little opportunity to collide with another vehicle nose-to-nose. Some of the most common causes of head-on collisions include:

  • Drunk or drugged driving;
  • Drowsy driving or falling asleep behind the wheel;
  • Distracted driving;
  • Driving the wrong way down a one-way street;
  • Entering the wrong way on an exit ramp;
  • Trying to pass in the opposing lane; and
  • Trying to pass on a curve.

People who are injured in a head-on crash should work with an experienced car accident lawyer as soon as possible. A skilled attorney understands how to investigate a crash and gather evidence of the other driver’s negligence to increase the chance of gaining the maximum recovery possible.

Injuries Due to Head-On Collisions

When vehicles collide front-to-front after traveling significant speeds, the drivers and passengers can sustain significant injuries. Common injuries from head-on crashes include:

  • Traumatic brain injuries;
  • Facial lacerations;
  • Skull fractures;
  • Burns due to the airbag;
  • Blunt trauma to the chest;
  • Spinal cord injuries;
  • Internal bleeding; and
  • Broken bone, including in the legs, torso, and arms.

These injuries often lead to significant medical expenses, lost earning capacity, physical impairments, and mental anguish. People who are physically, mentally, and financially suffering after a head-on crash deserve to work with a lawyer who will fight for their right to recover and move forward after an accident.

Contact a Car Accident Lawyer Today

Every year, thousands of Texans are injured or killed in car accidents, including head-on collisions. While some accidents occur due to factors beyond driver’s control, most crashes happen because drivers act carelessly, recklessly, or intentionally break the law or act dangerously. These negligent drivers then hurt innocent people who have to suffer the consequences of serious accidents, including long-term physical and emotional side effects and financial distress. Individuals who are hurt in car accidents should work with an experienced New Braunfels car accident attorney from The Bettersworth Law Firm.
