Contested Divorce Involving Children

Divorce is a process that can be especially difficult when children are involved. At The Bettersworth Law Firm, we are dedicated to helping families in the New Braunfels, Texas area come to equitable decisions regarding child custody, child support and visitation rights after divorce.

The level of personalized attention we give each client is what sets us apart from our competition. We know that divorces can be complicated, but we also know that through years of experience, we are highly skilled in dealing with family law matters. We will address the entirety of your family arrangements to come to a fair conclusion without involving the courts whenever possible.

What’s more, we’ll always be honest and up front with you about what you can expect cost-wise from us. In contested divorces involving children, there is typically more work that must be done to bring couples together to reach a reasonable decision. If the courts must be involved, then your costs will inevitably rise, but we will do whatever it takes to avoid that when we can.

Assigning Child Support Arrangements

Texas law is very clear when it comes to assigning child support: the custodial parent has the bulk of the financial responsibility for the children, so the non-custodial parent must pay a percentage of his/her net income to the custodial parent in order to offset these costs. This percentage is typically 20% of net income for the first child and an additional 5% of net income for each subsequent child. This amount can vary, however, and each case is unique.

If you’re considering divorce and you know that custody issues are going to be contested, contact us today for a free consultation. We can also be reached by phone at 830-606-0404 or toll-free at 888-392-0039. We will fight for your family and will help you achieve peace of mind when it comes to your children and their future.
