San Antonio Area Truck Accident Results in Criminal Charges

According to MySanAntonio.com, the 30-year-old truck driver, Andre Dixon, stopped his truck in the southbound lane of Loop 410, after he thought he sideswiped a vehicle – and failed to immediately reflective warning cones. He was walking in the grassy median when another 18-wheeler hit the back of his parked truck. Moments later, a pickup truck rear-ended the second semi-truck. While the 49-year-old driver of the pick-up truck suffered injuries including a broken leg, the driver of the second semi-truck was killed.

Authorities say that Dixon violated a Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration regulation when he failed to place reflective triangles on the highway before walking along the median. Additionally, the Texas Transportation Code requires truck drivers to move their vehicle from the main lanes of a highway as soon as possible, which Dixon didn’t do when he apparently realized that he hadn’t side-swiped a vehicle. Dixon, who could see up to two years in jail and a fine of up to $10,000, is being held at a local jail.
