San Antonio Accident Leaves Two Dead and Three Injured

On Behalf of | Nov 3, 2021 | Car Wrecks

Just under 3,900 individuals lost their lives in Texas car crashes in 2020. This figure represents a significant increase from 2019 traffic fatalities. The Texas Department of Transportation reports that speeding and not wearing a seatbelt are some of the top contributing factors in these fatal accidents. Unfortunately, a fatal car crash can happen to anyone. Recently, a San Antonio accident left three critically injured and two dead. Like many collisions, the accident is thought to have involved speeding.

Crash Caused Both Cars to Roll Over

Police say that a man driving a Volkswagen Jetta was traveling above the speed limit when he struck a pickup truck exiting a restaurant. According to the police report, the crash was so intense that it caused both drivers to lose control of their vehicles. The Volkswagen Jetta and pickup truck rolled over several times before coming to a stop. Sadly, both of the Volkswagen’s occupants died during the collision due to blunt force injuries. The individuals in the pickup truck were rushed to the hospital.

Speeding Continues to Be a Major Contributor to Texas Crashes

Many people admit to driving above the speed limit from time to time. However, speeding is much more dangerous than most people realize. Speeding reduces the amount of time a driver has to react to a dangerous situation and increases the force applied to vehicle occupants in a collision. The National Safety Council reports that speeding was a contributing factor in over a quarter of all fatal accidents in 2019. Speeding is especially dangerous on gravel roads and during adverse weather.

Legal Options for Those Involved in an Accident Caused by Speeding

If you or a loved one were injured in a collision caused by a speeding driver, you may have the right to compensation. You could be entitled to compensation for emergency room fees and other medical expenses resulting from the crash. You may also recover compensation for your lost income, vehicle damage, and other financial losses. Compensation for non-economic losses, including your pain and suffering, may be recoverable as well.
